Yes, I know. It's not really even a classic, but it belongs to James, who is one of my sons best friends. He's also a student, so has spent all his money on beer. He's also staying with us for Easter as his folks live on Orkney. It was no surprise then that he asked me to deal with the rust in the back of his little French car. It's his first car and he loves it. I did point out the major flaw in this - ie, it's French, but he wiggled his way out of it by saying that his parents bought it for him. So - rear off inner wing then. I only poked it with my finger, honest. A short time later.... Inner bit. Outer bit. Inside. Inside finished. Outside finished. It'll please the MoT man and I might (eventually) get some beer out of it. P45.

Neat work. Retaining the edge of that panel is going beyond the bounds of duty - I'd have been tempted to just splot a flat patch over the top. I hope the beer is good, you deserve the best for that job.

James is a lucky boy. I wish one of my friends had had a dad with your welding skills when I was his age! My first car might had lasted longer than 3 months.

Cheers, chaps. I know what you mean Ted - my first one lasted 9 months. Just like doing it right(ish) Willy. Anyway, did the other side today. The Finger of Doom pointed. The Wire Wheel of Destruction struck. The Slitting Disc of Regulation did its work, followed by the Magic Metal Melting Machine. And again. All tidied up. Mind you, by way of light relief I welded this little lot together. Apparently it's some sort of stability mounting for a static caravan. Battleship welding. P45.

Quite willing to have a go at it if you wish. The garage is free for the next two weeks, then I've got a big project coming in.
