Back in August, I saved this Rover 2000SC for parts when it was about to head straight to the scrapyard.
As you can see, it looked awful, so I didn't think twice about stripping it down ready to weigh in the remains. The rear seats and some of the interior is now in my 2000TC. I removed the cylinder head to see that 2 valves had burnt out, which must have prompted the car being taken off the road some 20 years ago.
Then yesterday I removed the wings and sill covers to discover that the base unit is amazingly sound.
This means I now have a major problem. I can't keep it or restore it myself, but I really don't want to scrap it when I've seen so many people struggle to weld far worse examples. So I'm hoping someone with a rusty project car will want to use this instead. I paid £150 for it and would like as much of that back as I can get.
It's on Anglesey, North Wales, which may seem a long way away, but this has to be worth travelling for.
As you can see, the tops of the front inner wings and all round the engine bay is covered in rust, but apart from the slam panel at the front (which needs replacing), this is only on the surface so could be cleaned back and treated. I can only guess that the car was stored in the barn with the front facing an open door. Even that dodgy bit of sill/jacking point surround appears to have clean paint on the inside, so not the tip of the iceberg that we normally expect.
The boot floor is dented upwards. My fault I'm afraid, caused by the exhaust catching on my trailer as I was winching it on. Shouldn't be too difficult to knock back into shape.
As I assumed I'd be scrapping the car, I piled junk inside hence the lack of interior photos. If anyone's interested and thinks they may be able to save it, I'll clear it out properly and take some better photos of the floors and insides of the sills.
