Arrived in Cornwall at a farm Greeted by this. Can you see the bonnet hump? Oh! Towbar - bonus The 1st purpose for this madness - that's not the typical 1.4 or 1.6 Lush beige everywhere. Purpose #2 Not too leggy Oh! Period sounds Period ambiance. Just look at that lovely shelf. We need to bring proper shelves back.

Setting off for home with a tank of Texaco's unleaded petroleum Lunch is why you need a shelf Convoy home behind the XJR This 2000cc engine gives 140 horses, so no problem keeping up Along the A303 you see soldiers And lush countryside And German motors Henges of stone, even And then came the contraflows and cones of our Motorway network Looked in the rear mirror and I appeared to lose that Jaguar! Around the corner from home it got a swift wash before being presented to the Wife. She didn't like it.

What's not to like? Apart from that anaemic looking breakfast with too few sausages. Car looks grand - best colour scheme and interior combo. Are you happy with it?

Added alloy wheels to make it look a tad grander Can you see my hump? Still part-way through transferring the leather seats and door cards, defeated by a rusted-solid bolt through floor that is way too close to the belt pre-tensioner mechanism Am I happy with it? Well, I've put almost 600 miles on it already... Just so happened to win it with top bid of £400 Plan is: to service it, fix that oil leak, sniff the cambelt; drive it MOT December

Resurrected Wiped over, fiddled-with and put in for MOT Needed rear calipers as were seized, they said they 'did try' to free-up. Did need more welding than expected: both sill ends, not just one plate. So asked the fella to let-in tidily and prime/paint over in body colour rather than grotty black underseal. Fancied adding some 17" wheels from an old MG too. So what with the leather, it's quite a nice car now. Went to its first show and was papped Booked in for Festival of the Unexceptional in July, blagging about its bonnet hump rarity. And why? 1) Well, of 11,493 Rover 420 SLi registered in the UK, just 73 are left. 2) it's roomy, has veneers, leather, sun roof and is a nice colour: because Rover. 3) it's old enough now to be comparable to owning a Dolomite in 2005. I feel old. 4) after all, could it be seen as a spiritual successor of Dolomite Sprint: similar power, 16v, four-doors, comforts? 5) or could it be more likely the Triumph Acclaim Mk3 ? Oh wouldn't the TRDC members blow a vein if it gets badged-up to suit Either way, it was cheap as chips and I like these old things
