Welcome to the new forum. Popular Classics v2.0.....
Im annoyed and very upset that we are to lose all the material on the old forum, but if we can keep the members and the spirit of the old place and bring it here then this should be a nice place to be.
Same rules as before - this is YOUR forum, not mine, if you want something changing, dont like something, suggestions, or just want to hurl abuse - message me and it will be done.
Matt.

Any suggestions as to how we can promote the new forum? Is it worth writing the classic car magazines, owners clubs etc or do we just want to let it grow organically like?

Certainly easier to remember! We did this on the Landcrab forum and it has helped with retaining active members.

Quickest thing to do is get the popular-classics.co.uk domain DNS set up to point to this new site instead of the old forumcircle one Currently in Steve Jackson's name, handled by 123.reg. Once this is changed the Google and Bing etc search links will redirect. who.is/whois/popular-classics.co.ukThen can look at marketing

Proboards will charge $28 to change it. Bear in mind also that being a free forum, the adverts will appear after our first month. We have to pay to make them disappear. It would be unreasonable to expect Matt to meet that cost on an ongoing basis.

I didn't think ProBoards had anything to do with 123-reg, it's registered to Steve's name, so Steve should have the login details to change it See who.is/dns/popular-classics.co.ukNeed to change 94.136.40.82 to be 104.16.120.223

I have some news
For past couple of days I have been able to attempt a backup or two of the old site and build as a mirror site saved on my local hard drive.
Not looked too deeply, but many of the blog pages appear to be intact.
Flicking between pages is broken as flat html pages full of framed text and inline images cannot replicate the forum 'engine' itself, but hopefully it will mean that if there is a blog page you want to copy straight over it is possible (page by page) with all photo links intact so you won't have to write the blighter out all over again.
Will get back later with an update
