Some weeks ago, Mick the Mustang came wandering into the Robin Hood looking like the cat who's got the cream. Eventually he confessed to the assembled petrol heads that he'd been given a Jaguar XJ6 Executive, with a full tank of petrol and a full tank of LPG. We gleefully told him that they were worth more than the car, before the fighting talk began. "It'll be rotten", I said. Last week end, he appears and says the car is up on the lift and would I have a look. Tee Hee! Yup, both floor/sill joints gone back to the B posts, front of the floor and up what would be the bulkhead. Have some pics, it probably makes more sense than my ramblings. He's 6' and I'm 5'4", so it was his turn to bang his head on the car. MoT test in January - Sell it afterwards, Mick! P45.

Oddly enough, my 1992 Daimler XJ40 had nothing like that. It was really good under there. What it did have was tired bushings everywhere and diabolic PAS oil leaks

Is 20 years old modern? I suppose the poor things just not had much love. The state of it though ius what I'd expect to find on a 'Crab and they're up to fifty years old.
The underseal on it was amazing. There was some white stuff at the bottom, followed by what seemed to be ΒΌ" of blue rubber, and then underseal on top of that. It was highly tenacious and almost had structural properties of its own.

Finished this off today. DSCN4712 by Penguin 45, on Flickr Big patch up the o/s floor. There was still plenty to cut away before we reached shiny metal. Much flatting back followed before painting and underseal. Lift arm wasn't exactly helping. DSCN4713 by Penguin 45, on Flickr DSCN4713 by Penguin 45, on Flickr I'm still surprised at how little metal there is in the corner. A 'Crab has a bulkhead panel, floor panel, gusset plate, sill end and rear wheel arch panel all meeting in that area, so it's immensely strong (But a nightmare to repair properly!). That little lot on the Jag is just a one piece pressing, so hardly confidence inspiring. Anyway, Mick's just got the electronics to sort out now. I think he's on his own with that one. P45.
