So, Dave rang up and said "The garage has found a small hole at each end of both sills, will you fix them for me?" Naturally, I said yes, and he drove down from Newcastle to God's Own County. Nose first into the garage, jacked up the nearside and stuck some stands over and got the chisel out. Five minutes later, he rang his friend Nigel and said "Come and get me - this is going to take a while!" A sizable chunk of the front floor, bulkhead and front wheel tub fell off instantly and with very little help from me. Never been welded? My @rse.... That sorted out the front end. The sill repair isn't what I'd have chosen to do, but it turned out solid and flatted back nicely. On to the rear. Then I had to give her back. We arranged that she'd come back down in about a month's time for the other side. P45.

She was duly returned for the off side. Dave came down with his mate Nigel and didn't wait. I had, in the meantime, managed to pick up a Hadrian sill panel at a sensible price and get it delivered to Yorkshire. This involved a good mate, a funeral and a trip to Catterick in the dark amidst horrendous unmarked roadworks in the A1 and in Catterick itself. So... I poked it a bit. Yup, that's nasty. Solution? Make a much bigger hole! Fix gusset plate. Fix bulkhead. Fix front floor pan. Fix rear floor and back under seat hump. Chop off sill. To reveal remains of original sill...... "A" post. Front and rear jacking points. Grot cut out of centre sill, rear inner sill repaired. New bottom flange. Front of centre sill repaired. New outer sill fitted and "A" post repaired. Front wheel tub repaired. Rear arch into sill. Yuck. Inner bit. Outer bit and corner. And it finished up all right after a swipe of filler. At some point, it's coming back again for the rear arches to be finished properly. Not too soon, I hope..... P45.
