After the Citroen debacle i had been keeping an eye out for a winter project. Something cheap and interesting...
This popped up in Essex.
Off the road since 1989, its still full of petrol receipts from the last time it moved!
The story is the head gasket went in 89 so it was taken off the road. Then, after 18 years it got bought by someone on the Scimitarweb site, who did nothing to it, other than storing it for another 8 years. Then it went to the chap i bought it from, who spent thousands....
Its had an engine rebuild, new carb, new hoses, pumps, uprated alloy radiator, fans...
Its got a stainless fuel tank and water pipes, and a stainless exhaust.
He also rebuilt the wheel end of all 4 brakes, calipers, pads, wheel cylinders, shoes etc etc... Plus 4 new Toyo Tyres.
After some limited use earlier this year the brakes failed - possibly the servo. It sat back in his garage and he advertised it.
I paid his asking price, which was less than half what he had spent buying and fixing the thing. He even delivered it!
Ive started on the brakes, so far ive found 3 leaks, master cylinder, servo, and the main front to rear brake line. No clue which of these failed first but im replacing the lot!
Other than that it runs lovely. Theres one little bit of rust in the chassis that needs welding but its very localised. The paint is original, but very tatty. I cant face another GRP resto just yet so it will probably stay like that! Its got a Webasto which is great, electric windows, and Overdrive which ive not tested yet. It might see the road this year before winter, hopefully anyway.
