Tomorrow, Friday is 'Crunch time' for my 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ 4.0ltr Orvis with only 97000miles. She has nearly a full years MOT, 4x newish tyres (less than a 1000mls), 1/2 tank of fuel (these tanks swollow up a lot). Reason...ABS has operated 2 times in the dry and at slow speed. True, it hasn't done it for a few months but...I've had it with these supposed 'Bullet proof' Jeeps. Mine was made with Chrysler bits and in the last 3000 miles the thing has cost me fortunes. Its a case of 'you name it..it's gone' from Keyswitch, Front UJ's, radio, electric ariel, front discs & brake calipers, brake pads and drums..again!!! (I only drive the thing slowly as its about 4 to the gallon fast and 8 to the gallon slow), leaf springs, exhaust pipe (rear section 3 times in last 5000 miles),Heated rear window, heated mirrors (checked all fuses about 30 of em but all okay, crank position sensor, plug leads, air-con compressor, power steering pump, High level brake light, window regulator both sides (Jeep say that you must not operate the electric windows if its cold...and now i know why , all brake pipes rusted, Hand brake cable, heater, leaking rear wheel cylinders....Oh theres more but you get the picture...what a piece of ***p! The previous owner (had only1) was a middle aged female, a neighbour actually who drove from her house to work locally. The Jeep has never ever been off-road and never even seen a blade of grass. All local driving and I got it when it had only done 50,000mls ....So tomorrow bye..bye...Chilli pepper red load of junk the scrappers are coming...CRUNCH TIME!
All I need the thing to do is carry ladders once in a blue moon...so enter a Skoda Fabier 3, 1.6 Silver Petrol Estate (2009) with 44000 mls - Hope my jinx doesn't continue but hey...You don't get a spare wheel with them...VW state its to help with fuel efficiency and to bring the car into a lower tax bracket...seems like bull***t to me coz the equivilent VW has a spare..But then again VW fiddled the emissions ...naughty naughty.
Still enjoy my Bullnose SAAB, still chugging away
Footnote: The bu**ers never turned up...9hrs waiting in vain so F'em....Got to find another breaker and soon.

Have a company calling tomorrow (thur) to take the thing away but thanks for the offer. If for any reason they let me down then I'll get back to you and see if you can help. In the last 3 days (still been using the car) the heater packed up and one of the air vents on the dash has seized up solid and wont move...incredible, never ever heard of this fault...What a motor! Looks the biz, no rust near perfect paint but...Carp at its best. The Jeep XJ Cherokee Orvis was the top of the range with all leather and walnut interior. Absolete disgrace for such an expensive car and I wouldn't touch a new one with a bargepole.

Hi 'bent8rover' ...Sorry, only just signed in and didn't get to read your comments. They turned up at 10.00 this morning and loaded up the Jeep. It'll probably end up a tin of beans but I bet the ring-pull will snap. The first company offered £213 but they failed to turn up...The second company offered £206 and again they failed to turn up and the last lot only offered £150 and will make a 'bank transfer' within 24hrs (I hope)...The Jeep had nearly £400 of 50/50 tyres on it (with less than 600 mls on them) let alone loads of other gear. I had just had enough of spend..spend..spend..so now I hope this Skoda Fabia3 lasts and is reliable (I tend to be very unlucky with cars over the years...never ever made a profit unlike some of you chaps on here). Again, thanks for your kind offer to help out...Keep well.

What has peed me off is that I stipulated that the Jeep be scrapped (even wrote it on the return slip to DVLA) The company promised to send me a certificate of destruction...Never did. I now find that the thing (Jeep) is still on the road and allowed to be re-taxed...totally contrary to the agreement. I told the so-called company that the car had ABS faults (Which required a Jeep diagnostic meter to sort out and bleed the Abs manifold ...only one available in USA @ $3000...Yea right!) I informed DVLA, in fact remonstrated that they had no right to allow the vehicle to be taxed when the legal contract was to scap the car...especiallt when I informed DVLA of this condition at the time of sale. The woman at DVLA didn't want to know and stated that it was nothing to do with them. I told her that it was on their head if anyone got injured or worse if the ABS totally failed.

Legally, you sold it to them to dispose of. They have done that - just by selling it on rather than scrapping. Not much you can do about it really.

Hi Chaps...You are right. What worries me is that the thing (Jeep) showed ABS fault every now and then by the brake pedal chomp chomping for no apparent reason. I tested all the sensor leads and all tested okay on a meter. I assumed that it was the ABS pump but to check it you have to remove the unit which meant you need a Jeep box of tricks to open the pump when you bleed the brakes. The only available meter to do this was for sale in the USA for $3,000 so, Jeep had to go. It concerns me that there might be a 4.0ltr tank storming around out there with dodgy brakes and I for one do have a conscience.

It would appear that you have done every thing possible to do the right thing and I reckon that your conscience should be clear. The company you sold the Jeep to was probably dodgy as so many of them are and its them who should have a guilty conscience or be responsible if any thing goes wrong not you. Hate Cowboys.
