One of the first British VHF sets. The green 'Magic Eye' in working order. Refurbished some years ago with new caps and valves. The Gramophone socket is now used as an iPod input in an emergency Video of it in action hereFor a while, this was on every weekend mealtime. Then taken into storage (the loft..) when the room was stripped for redecoration. Must get it back, the sound was impressive from that single cone. But then something else happened...

...in its place this Mitsubishi MC-8000 has gone in Picked it up in a charity shop and wasn't exactly cheap Took it to bits on the dining room table, which impressed the wife greatly as she *loves* wires everywhere PSU, amp and Tuner are working well. Determined it needed belt and capstan for the cassette deck as perished and crumbled. The platter is belt-driven and that had perished too. The linear tracking uses grain-of-wheat sized bulbs and its looks like a bit of challenge but there is a small following on these (isn't the Internet fantastic) and there are Tube-of-You videos and forum posts of advice on how to fix Part of this led to a Bay-of-E shop in Germany that does service kits. So bought a whole set. Also sourced bulbs in the UK. Now to find some time when the wife is out for a few meals..

Still sounds good, especially when the neighbours are out. I've got a pair of these too..... bought s/h to go with this which I was given about 20 years ago. Became son's uni noise generator around 10 years back and last used about a month ago as a source of 30-100Hz sinewaves by a colleague at work! I've just replaced all of the dead indicator bulbs with LEDs so it lights up properly for the first time since I acquired it.
