I recently bought a retired hearse.
It found me,I didn't set out to buy one,but I've ended up with a 32 year old car with only 45k on the clock and in extremely good condition.
Thoughts?

Hi 'junkyarddog' ...Interesting purchase ... What make of motor? Would like to know your intended use ie as an estate, van or just getting rid of annoying neighbours (coz I've got a few) Can you park her off road? I think that it's brilliant but my other half would only use it on me to cart my old corpse off....and she wouldn't even wait for me to snuffit first When you got a minute, any chance of some pics .....BIG PLEASE!

It's a 1990 Ford Sierra, not exactly the poshest of vehicles to take ones last journey in. Based on a saloon, thats been extended by 22",powered by a 2.0 pinto and 4 speed auto, fast and economical she is not! Cruises along nicely though. Can't remember how to post pics

I think that it is a really neat . I keep thinking of the 'Munsters' car on tv, a long time ago ...he..he. Is she going to be your daily drive or just for fun? What about taking her to car shows coz I bet you will get a huge crowd and loads of enquiries. It really could be a 'sleeper' I believe that the Pinto engines can be modified alot ....I also know that the Saab boys use Pinto pistons in their V4's for extra Woomph!

I actually bought it as an engine doner for my MK2 Capri,it won't be a daily as it's a very thirsty old beast.
I'm still not 100% sure I even like it.
Here she is in all her glory!
Just after getting the side and rear glass heavily tinted.

.I,m in love ....That Holden Sandman is truly a thing of beauty. I would never had recorgnised your motor from the side as an extended Sierra and doesn't she look ultra smooth and yes, definately COOL. I would have thought that to convert her into that red street machine a very expensive project ... but hey, if funds were available how could you not? Bet you'd get a few peeps over for a sleepover Lot of machine for a 2.0 ltr to pull ....sedately and smooth. I think that you are very brave to buy such a car but she is gorgeous and if I was younger ...and not such an old I would be truly tempted. Way back in the day, I owned a Saab workshop/dealership and I just wish now that I had one of these motors to ferry parts around ...boy, what an edge that would have been.

I'm surprised by the amount of attention she gets, but it's definitely a Marmite car. The extra wheelbase means it rides extremely good, but the downside is that the handling isn't,you can really feel those extra inches on the narrow twisty road that I live on. Fuel consumption isn't that great either. Plans for the future?,I'm not sure, may stick to my original plan and harvest the engine for the Capri. I do like the of micro camper though. If I do keep it a diesel conversion may be on the cards,I do have a 1.8 Sierra turbodiesel lump fitted to something else.....

Just love Marmite and fully agree with the diesel conversion if you intend to use her quite a bit.... I wonder if the coffin support/slide is removable to increase the internal space? (unless you want to rent it out to Rob to shove his son in ). With 45K on the clock she must be pretty solid underneath and well worth a punt in my opinion .....Boy, what a talking point ....Go for those car shows It's a thumbs up from me.

No,the deck is fixed,it's just a piece of veneer MDF,supported but inch box section welded to the frame of the car, there is a lower hidden compartment underneath too. The front seats don't go back as far as I'd like,so the driving position isn't that great for me at the moment as I'm quite tall.

After driving for some time you might get stiff too quite apt if you think of it . I must agree with llovegrace, money permitting I'd 'go for it' and do a Holden sketch on it. Very Goth and bloody fantastically different (if there is such a word).

Have another pic, taken just before it went to get the rear glass blacked out. you can still see out fine, and a lot of light still gets in,but it's very difficult to see through from the outside.
